New to me 2005 4.4i
![]() What I noticed when purchasing: - Both front outer CV axle boots torn and slinging grease - Smelling coolant/antifreeze vapor - Missing sub-woofer - Performance seemed lagging - Tailpipe smoke excessive when in stop and go traffic - Prior owner indicated numerous dead battery conditions What was done to it recently before I purchased: - New tires - Transmission serviced - Valve cover gaskets - Front and rear brake rotors with pads - Brake booster - Coolant expansion tank What I parts I have ordered prior to first servicing: - Inspection 2 maintenance with Mobil 1 High Mileage 10W-40 - New front CV axles - New radiator - CCV/OSV membrane replacement kits - Final stage resistor as I notice the interior fan would make noise with no key in ignition. - New H8 battery - Used style 130 wheels with brand new Hankook Dynapro ATM for winter and off-roading. - idrive transfer case fluid - Flush brake fluid - Replace differential fluids - Update navigation firmware to V32 and install 2015 map DVD What parts I am planning on having to replace at some point later: - N62 water transfer pipe - N62 valve stem seals - Belts, tensioners and pulleys. - Vacuum hose to brake booster (Oil flows past check valve in hose and eventually takes out the booster) Looking forward to getting this truck road worthy with a little TLC and then enjoying the winter in it.

I love that color! Congrats on the new ride!
Looks good so far, decent list to start with. Personally I'd look into overhauling the cooling system if you are doing the radiator.

I would just replace the outer CV joints with new joints and boots instead of putting on cheap made in China axles.
Most people don't do this because it is a lot cheaper to buy an aftermarket replacement axle from Pep Girl, The Manualzone or O'Malley. There's a special tool that will pop off the cv joint and it's under 50 bucks. Or you can try beating it off with a punch and hammer. Here's a link to a video for removing the cv joint with the special tool. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vOh43Wkmqnc Special tool can be purchased on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271887159717...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT If you do replace the entire axle don't forget to do the differential seals. Seals sometime get damaged during the axle replacement and will leak differential oil after the new axles are installed.

Found one water leak...
Small 3-way water hose by throttle body had broken off one of its hoses. Headed to Ace Hardware to get a brass Tee fitting and some new heater hose.
I would be so dang lucky if this was my only leak!

Was able to rebuild the old hose by adding a brass Tee fitting. This is just a temporary fix until a new complete hose assembly comes in. Appears this was the only water leak source. Got off way too easy
![]() Did the rest of the Inspection 2 servicing and nothing else was found that was concerning. CCV/OSV diaphragms were gunked up but appear to not be leaking. Hoping the Mobil 1 high mileage will reduce the stop and go tailpipe smoke due to the valve stem seals but know I will need to do those eventually. Overall, I feel it was a great buy for under $5k.
