2006 X5 "Executive Edition"

I was at my dealer today to just check out the pre-owned inventory. I had a nice discussion with my long-time rep and he confirmed that they will be receiving physical demos of the 2007 X5s this fall (new gen).

But he also pointed out that next week they are starting to receive the last of the current X5s. These are called "X5 Executive Edition" here in Canada. The exterior colors will be reduced to about half, and they will only come in black leather.

He couldn't find the sheet for a 4.4i Executive, but I saw the sheet for the 3.0i Executive. It costs $65900 Canadian and you get:

Front+Rear PDC
Ski Bag
Aluminum Running Boards
Headlamp Washers
Adaptive Xenons
Privacy Glass
Panorama Roof
Servotronic
Auto-Dimming Mirrors
Electric Seats w/ Memory
Sunshades
Compass Mirror

I went and configured a normal X5 3.0i and it seems you save $2515, which is cool. Furthermore they are offering a 3.4% finance rate up to 48 months at the dealer.

I suppose this isn't a "terrific" deal, but it's a savings, plus you get this one package, and you have the contents of both the Activity and Premium packages in one. Not bad!

They're doing the same for the 4.4i, but you will still be able to also select the Sport Package and Nav Package on top separately.

Interesting. BMW CA took the same approach with the E46 as they phased out each configuration, basically a way of helping with managing inventory choices for their dealers.

Thanks for the info, Ian. This is typical incentive for cars in last model years

Hi folks,

I appreciate there may be 'special packages' just now, there are several here in the UK too, but called 'Limited/Exclusive Editions' but I can assure you...you can still buy any X5 you want in any colour you want in the UK.

Indeed, our 'new year' (when aged based registrations move on) for cars happens twice a year, 1st March and 1st September and the UK dealerships are still taking orders for NEW X5's (current style) for delivery in JANUARY 2007.

Now, our 3.0d Sport model has a 10-14 month wait list...BUT UK dealers I've asked will NOT now take an order for the current model for delivery after 28th February 2007...so maybe there's something in that!!!

I also very recently visited the X5 factory in Spartanburg, and the 'lean production' methods used (based on the original 'Toyota' built to order processing) mean there are very few incentives for BMW to reduce the model range until the last six weeks of production for a model...to which you can add another six weeks for processing/shipping.

I wonder if the stealer is telling little white lies to push a sale...???

I would bet on the dealer being pretty up front. They aren't reported to have stopped ordering X5s for stock, they are just moving to the close out model configurations, what they call the executive edition. With the E46 sedans, those models ran for at least six months, while they cleaned the inventory out of the system. At the end of the E46 cycle, there were 3 colours available.

I think the ordering cycle in the UK is quite a bit longer, partly due to shipping time and partly due to the wait for the 3.0D

Realize also that this is BMW CA, not BMWNA, which has different configurations and ordering rules. Canada has a smaller market and they help the dealer with the inventory management challenges related to that smaller market.

In Belgium you get about 8000 euros of reduction when you buy a new one now. This includes free navigation package, free leather and some other stuff.
