Valve Lifter replacememt

My saga with my X continues. Since purchasing it in Sept. it has had a persistent "tick" sound coming from bank 2. Sounded like a classic stuck lifter. I have tried misc. oils and different weights, additives, etc. Doing the bleeding procedure as well. After much research/discussion thought it had to be the VANOS. I was not able to find any information or testament to anyone with a M62 motor having to replace lifters. There is a service bulletin out there from BMW about the noise and it pushes the bleeding process. So, I rebuilt the VANOS, all back together, fires up and the $$*#&#& noise is still there. I have torn it down again and have physically pushed on the lifters and I can get them to push down with some force. Not a lot, but some. Anyone care to share some knowledge or experience with this? I don't' want to put it all back and have to go back again. New lifters are about $35/each so would rather not spend the $ if I don't have to. But, the lifters are the only thing left that I can think of that would be making the noise. Thoughts? Thanks
