Hey guys, what I meant to say was that I'd out that possible issue with flywheel will come from worned out friction plate but rather something else... That dual mass fly wheel tend to develop issues where two moving parts are joined - it gets loose i. E.. Develops play/bounce causing clutching being less than pleasent.. To cover this possible situation it pays to have a life time warranty on parts.. For that reason I bought most for the parts from FCPEuro

Update on my project(s)
It has been almost a month since I put my X5 on the lift. The transmission, clutch and flywheel have all been removed. The starter was replaced. The pilot bearing was replaced. And I am now waiting to replace the rear main seal housing with the new rear main seal. Unfortunately, a $1.75 gasket has delayed the whole project. I added to my tool box a tall trans jack, TIG welder, exh. Pipe expander. I explained to my wife that even with the new tools we will save money on the repairs.
Because of the delay in getting parts, I was not able to finish the project over Christmas break, as I had hoped. Now that graduate school is back in session, I will have limited time, but will update this thread as possible. I do have a lot of photographs and information. So far I will share these in a stepwise fashion. The posts will follow the following schedule: • cleaning, and transmission removal • removal of the roll, sway bar • replacement of starter. • Replacement of transmission input shaft seal • replacement of pilot bearing • replacement of the main seal. • Replacement of clutch and flywheel mechanism • Replacement of shifter mechanism • Conversion to X Pipe • Installation of AFE Air Filter • installation of X pipe • replacement of transmission, etc. (the CV boots will have to wait) To set the stage I think it is important that anyone undergoing these changes do some reading from the Bentley repair manual and watch the YouTube videos from Bav auto. I will not attempt to replace the information found in those 2 sources, but I will try to add to that knowledge base. As you know, some of the problems with the Bentley magazine is that some of the instructions are not very detailed. For example , I included a brief section on replacement of the rollbar; the Bentley magazine has all of the information, but I still found that this was one of the most difficult parts of removing the transmission. Kinda like a pretzel puzzle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qZskpXW9t4 |

test
test for photo
Trying to figure out the best way to do the DIY. External and import? Load photos and text into album.. I will say that the system for getting photos is either way outdated, or I do not understand it. The image sizes have to be tiny..........that is ok, but is difficult to upload very many at a time. Sorry to be a bother, but I am very literate when it comes to this stuff, but this forum is not intuitive for this. 1. Should I simply write a multiple chapter article using work with embedded fotos, maybe convert to .pdf. 2. Continue to slog away at trying to post what is going to be a long multiphase DIY with a lot of photos.........directly into this forum. I have spent well over an hour reducing the size of the photos, then laboriously trying to upload them. Thanks for any help. R Last edited by DrRick; 01-13-2016 at 05:02 PM. |

I am back to finish this write up. I know almost a year, but please see above post.
It will be very difficult to finish this write up if I have to reduce each photo to below the resolution specified. Other forums merely size the photo at the same time. Can Xoutpost.com do this??? It is painful to have to resize individual photos. I will see if I can do some batch processing of photos.............................stay tuned Last edited by DrRick; 12-29-2016 at 03:54 PM. |

If you use Photobucket, it will resize all uploads for you based on your preferences. That's usually how I do it.

Thanks for the tips. In the meantime I used the Automate Batch function in Adobe. Went a lot faster than I thought.

I am excited to see this. This is exactly what I aim to do when I get moved, but I am also going to change the exhaust manifolds for headers and universal cats.

Soak everything with PB.
I just noticed that the original aspect has been changed. Will update and return. Bear with me. It is the learning curve. |
