DSP Amplifier Replacement Options

Hey, everyone. So I[m looking to install an aftermarket in-dash unit like the AVANT-2 but my 2004 E53 X5 has DSP and is proving to be a troublesome workaround. There is a solution out there to wire the MID into the glove box and wire the business CD player in the trunk area to retain the DSP amp functionality, but I would prefer not to do all of that and go with just the replacement dash unit. I understand that I will lose OBC functionality without the MID in the glovebox but am ok with that at this point.

So my question is this... can I replace my DSP amplifier with the non-DSP hifi amplifier? If so, do the X5's come pre-wired for the standard hifi amp and the DSP amp, or do I need to splice wires into the hifi amp wiring harness to make it work? I have the factory subwoofer in the back right panel, but I have a separate aftermarket amp powering it so it will not be connected to the factory amps.

If the above is possible, is this the best route to go or would it be better to find an aftermarket amp to push all of the factory speakers and just remove the factory DSP or Hifi amplifier altogether?

Thanks for the help!

The wiring connectors are different for the DSP and Hi-Fi amps; your DSP amp has three connectors while the H-Fi has one large combined connector. I actually did the opposite: I upgraded from Hi-Fi to DSP splicing the three connectors into the main loom for the added DSP amp.

I'll be happy to let you have the severed Hi-Fi connector if this is something you might want to try. Just PM a mailing address.

The speaker feed and MID wires within the main loom for both Hi-Fi and DSP are the same quantity and color; telephone wiring quantity is different but inconsequential. If you also changed your MID out to a non-DSP version I don't see what you couldn't code your car from DSP to Hi-Fi.
