Windshield Smashed by Snow

Epic winter up here in Tahoe. Snowed 3 feet the other day my X5 got buried. Removed the snow today to find the front windshield shattered. I think a huge amount of snow fell from the tree above and did it.

Windshield was pitted to all hell and the molding is cracked to shit anyway. Got an appointment tomorrow in Reno to get it replaced. $260 for Pilkington (supposedly BMW uses them for OEM). Just glad to get in somewhere during holidays.

Holeeee sheet! Never seen that before, but it makes sense now that you describe it. I am a garage addict, never rent a vacation place without garage.

I have seen a rear window shattered by heat in Auburn CA. It was a Ford. And my LR Discovery suffered a heat shatter on a rear quarter pane while I was standing just a few feet away. Really weird to hear your car window crack up all by itself in the sun. But it was LR quality...

Wow. Just a thought...but if you get a lot of sun & heat build up during the summer...this could be a good time to upgrade to the "climate comfort" windshield if you don't already have it.

This windshield helps with UV rays etc to help reduce heat build up in the interior. You can ask the installer to order the bmw part nbr the windshield that applies to the options you have...it's good to check the correct part nbr regardless if you want to upgrade the windshield or not: RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog
