Air Conditioning/Fan not working

OK....here's the situation:

I upgraded all the electronics in my 2002 X5(new radio, new dvd, bluetooth, and sirius). Everything is working great. I drove the car into the office this morning and I have no fan/AC. Have any of you had this happen? Did something get unplugged? Do I need to disconnect the battery and reset the car system(had to do that in my M3). Let me know if any of you have come across this....I'd hate to take it into the dealer(I've had the car less than one month).

First thing I would check is the fuses. Second, check the connections to the A/C control panel. Here's some tips on pulling it out - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=17

Good luck!!

checked the fuses for the blower, air conditioning, fan...etc....any other ideas....I guess I could try all the fuses and make sure one isn't blown....The controls on the A/C unit looks to be working...but nothing happens when I turn the fan on.....the AC button lights up...but nothing...no fan...no noise....sounds like a blown fuse...I wanted to take a road trip in this car this weekend....anyone know of any connectors in the left rear panel that would disconnect the AC fan? Anyone know where the AC motor is located? Maybe I disconnected something back there.....when I get home I was going to disconnect the bluetooth stuff and the center console button...to see if my fan still doesn't work....

this happened to me too. you'll probably need to replace the final stage resistor. do a search on this site for it for more info.

If by chance it is the final stage resistor, here's the info - http://www.xoutpost.com/articles.php?...ticle&artid=96

The reasons I didn't think it would be this are 1) too coincidental that the AC failed at the same time that all of his other mods were performed, and 2) usually when the FSR fails it has different symptoms then just the fan ceasing to function completely.

Worth consideration though....

same thing

This is funny you post this. I am having the exact same prob in my 01 X5. I know it worked before, but all of a sudden nothing blows, no air, no heat, no fan? Should I just take this in? Everything else works great.

The X5 worked fine after the mods. It was the next morning. The AC compressor is kicking on..(my neighbor is a former mechanic). I'm having my wife run to the store to pick up a resistor and find out if that's the problem. I removed all my mods.

I've performed over a dozen of the bluetooth, XM, Sirius installs..and never had a problem. My AC controls work fine, the sirius works fine, bluetooth, car runs fine..etc...but the fan isn't blowing air....I've only had the car for 3 weeks...but if the $64 resistor is all I need to fix it.....I don't mind an hour worth of work.....hell I can't find a service center open right now and I'd prefer to fix it then get a loaner car for 2 days....

That was it.... went to the dealer...got part #64 11 6 923 204 and took about 45 minutes total to remove and replace the part. Great DIY in the articles section. My AC is blowing strong again...and hopefully this new part doesn't go back in a few years....but at least I know how to replace it and the part is only 64 bucks.......Have a good night guys!!!

Symptoms: No fan/blower

Attempts to fix: Checked all fuses, Disconnected all bluetooth, sirius, and any other new equipment

Solution: Replaced the final stage resistor

Cool, glad that fixed the problem. I updated the article to reflect that a symptom could also be a complete loss of the fan/blower motor from functioning.
