Exclamation My X5 consumes tons of oil

help! my x5 e53 3.0i m54b30 (2001), consumes lots of oil...i am asking what might be the reason? anyone had similar exp? on 12,000km it drank 5L of oil....it has lpg system in it without own lubricating oil for lpg injectors and i injectors haven't been changed for quite long (i will change them this week)...and i know i have jammed intake vanos...could this be the reason or low oil pressure? or bad oil (i used 10w-40 manoll oil, now i am using castrol 10w-40 and closely watching situtation)? or it is maybe ccv? help

crankcase ventilation hoses are plugged. Don't drive anymore until you fix it as you can hydrolock the engine. Search for CCV here an you'll see a ton of threads.

Do you leak oil or burn oil? Is your engine covered with oil? What do you by jam the vanos?

burn oil and it also has small leakage on valve cover gasket but guy at bmw stealership told me it is nothing that major, like not some evil or something but it should be replaced....intake vanos jammed was the error which was read out on OBD...plus when we already at CCV thing, i don't think thta it has been changed from the day the car was produced (i am 3rd owner)

hydrolock means that oil will get sucked into the cylinders. Since it is incompressible the engine will bend or break a rod.

Hopefully it's resolved as you described. Do you experience yellowish gunk on the oil cap? The CCV system consists of 3~4 hoses, so next time if you experience oil consumption again, make sure to replace the entire CCV system.

GL.

And also, is 5 liters in 12k km definitely a problem? I don't have anywhere near that on my X5. I know it is a completely different engine design, but my older 911 is spec'ed by Porsche to consume up to 1 liter per 1000 km before considering it a problem. Shocking to me, and my 911 uses about 1/10 of that, but I wonder what the spec is for the X5.

My 2001 X5 has the standard automatic rust inhibition feature where it leaks a carefully controlled amount of oil, eventually captured by the stiffening plate for recycling, keeping the entire lower engine coated in a 25 micron protective film of oil at all times.

i have replaced entire ccv system and i can hear and feel engine runs so much smoother, there was a small ammount of that yellow gunk as you mentioned, now everything is fine....and mechanics also have found that lower knee hose on my air intake hose is in catastrophic condition so i ordered new immediately and waiting for it sorry for late response i was away few days from my PC
