E70 Known Issues ? Looking to upgrade ...Soon!

Hello, I'm thinking of trading in my E53 for a E70 pretty soon. I was going to fix up the E53 with a 4.8is body kit and add the style 187's ect... but wife said she would rather invest the money on a newer X5. Thinking about a 07-08 I6. Wondering what kind of problem those engines have. Also came across a 2010 X5 Diesel I6 3.0L/183 with 73,000 miles at a local dealer. Is the Diesel any good? Just looking for some feedback. Thanks

Oil Cooler gasket and oil filter housing gasket. $6 parts, 1.5 hr job. No biggie
Transfer case oil change and reset, $50/liter, 30 min job, again, no biggie.

Other than these, normal wear and tear, regular oil change, you're good to go.

hate to state the obvious, but look in the E70 forums for a while and see what constant threads of failures you see. Read about. this e53 forum may not be as much help as going to the source

Diesel has stump pulling torque until it just falls off. It feels less responsive than my 3.0 E53 did at high speed. Having said that, I would own a diesel F15 for the long road trips. Great gas mileage. Never have liked the E70.

The early gasoline 3.0 i6 E70's were dogs. I'd look for one with the 3.5 branding at the very least. My sister in law has the F15 3.5 and it's peppy.

Also check with some of the members on the E70 forums vs the E53

I own a 2012 E70 3.5i and an 01 E53 3.0i. The E70 is the newer "twin power turbo" N55 engine. The E70 has 32k miles and is CPO for another two years. No issues with it yet, other than needing rear brakes.

Thanks for all of the replies. Really looking forward to owning an E70. Love the exterior as well as the interior. Went to see a 2010 today in white. What a big difference from my E53. Everything looks up to date and flashier than my E53. I've got a about 2 months to decide. Really looking for a white, silver, or grey E70. Looks like it's engine is pretty reliable. Hopefully I can find one when i'm ready to pull the trigger.

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
If I could find it in my heart to give up the 3rd pedal, I would consider an E70 LCI 35D, with Sport Package (or whatever M-sport looking package was offered) - big fan of the diesel for sure, with a slight tune its an even torquier beast

Yeah, that would be nice. The 2010 Diesel xDrive35d I've seen online at a local dealer is nicely priced and has 73,000 miles. I'm going on Friday to take a look at it. Really want to test drive it. There's no photos online other than a stock one. Hopefully its in mint condition. I drove past the dealership on Sunday, it was covered in snow so I couldn't really take a good look at it.
