Is it time?........
Mine are now 12 years old. They hold up the hood. Mine have the power of static, meaning they do not continue to lift the hood, nor do they let the hood fall. It requires power to initially get the hood up. If I stop halfway, the hood remains there. If I assist the hood to fully open, it stays there. Not sure what the correct amount of assist is required. Are aftermarket hood struts worth buying?

Mine gave up about 4 years ago. I just replaced them with aftermarket (StrongArm) struts.

Mine works exactly the same. I have to lift the hood up after it's released, but as long as I lift it more than halfway, it will stay in that position. As long as I still have to pull it down to start the close action, I figure the struts are good.

Mine drooped down and hit my head. Replaced with stabilius (I think).

It's just hood struts...
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...hood-wise.html I just replace them when they don't hold in place - aka, fall. It's a 15 minute DIY at most. Just be careful when you remove that detent clip. I was not paying that good attention when I did my trunk and it slipped and caused 1/8" scratch. |
