2004 4.8iS loud tick when cold

Hi guys. I have had my X for about 6-7 months now. There are no leaks whatsoever and the car runs perfectly fine. Only thing I have noticed is that when first started there is a loud tick, kind of sounds like a lifter, that goes away once she is warmed up good. Now the car has 0-40 weight oil in it. Can I put some 10-40 or some other weight oil in and see if this fixes the tick? I am a newbie to the X5 so wasn't sure about changing oil viscosity on these.

I'm running 5w-30 as suggested in the owner's manual. 5w-40 or 10w-40 are fine.

Well, I'm not positive but it sure didn't seem like the oil filter was ever changed. Surprising considering the timing chain under the oil fill cap looks brandy new! Anyway did a complete oil change (including filter) and the tick has gotten better. I think after a couple more unnecessary changes for good measure and I might be able to get rid of the tick.
