General Module III to code or not to code??

Hello, Thinking I have a Gen Mod III that has quit working, I have no keyless entry/ locking, no rear hatch opening, no wipers (have rear wipers, but wife is not amused by me suggesting to go in reverse!) and no interior lights. I have had an issue for months now, with a rear pass door that doesn't lock automatically, (I just get the kids to push the button or open it)
It was working perfectly up until today, when I disconnected the battery and did some work (ccv replacement) upon reconnecting the battery, it seems I had lost my Gen Mod III functions.
my question is, if I grab a used one, (presumably it works) do I have to code anything from/to my truck? or will it just work!??
I would send my module off to the guy that repairs them, but I need this truck Monday, and its supposed to be raining! so I'd like to get it working, and then maybe send off my module for repair.
also, is their a year range /model range that would work?? I've heard the 2002-2003 ones are prone to failure (great!!)
thanx

Some functions with a used GM3 will work, but for it to work 100% you will need coding/programming. A used GM3 can be coded to your car fortunately.

I would say without coding, you will have 80% of the GM3 working - people have experienced issues with interior lights and other bits not working 100% without coding.

Ok I must have gotten really lucky! I picked up a used gm3 module from a local wrecker . I installed it (disconnected the battery first !!) then upon reconnection........wait for it.....success!!!!! Wipers, interior lights, rear hatch, lower rear hatch yes!! Had to initialize my key again but it all works!!! No coding required!! Which I thought was odd! Wondering which features am I not going to have ??? Thanx

If you have a basically optioned X, everything should work. Only exception would be if you pulled a GM from a non-rain sensor vehicle, and you have one, or a manual trans to automatic, or sunroof to non-sunroof equipped. I can't think of anything else that would be coded differently.

Unlock all the doors with just one push of the button, automatic self lock at a certain mph will need to be recoded if it wasn't already coded in the replacement module.
