Have you tried disconnecting the battery and touching the cables together, when not attached to battery? Someone here couldn't communicate to they transmission, that fixed it.

I will give that a shot. Thanks!

I think I've sorted my connectivity issues. Firstly, I had the ignition switch in KL R only rather than KL 30. When I set it to KL 30 most modules began responding. I still see a few iffy connections but they aren't consistant so I'm putting that down to my dodgy XP VMWare VM running on a Mac! I'm certainly not going to code anything with this VM...

Secondly, my INPA installation was very messed up and a fresh install of that got most stuff working. I was even able to clear all error memories for a clean start - not that there was anything present other than a handful of intermittent low voltage alarms on a few modules - old non-present errors in shadow memory only - nothing active.

A good nights work.

Glad that you sort out yours! I don't quite understand what you did with the ignition switch, can you further explain it so I can give that a try too?

All my connectivity issues aren't totally sorted but I did make more progress with the ignition switched to the "third" position (KL 30) rather than the "accessory power" position (KL R). I assume that KL 15 might work too - not sure.

Here's some info. from QSilver7...

"KL" in bimmerspeak refers to the ignition "terminal" positions. For many, the terms "run" & "accessory" still raises questions...because it doesn't plainly explain which ignition positions they are for those that don't refer to their owners manual for better clarification.

Below is some simple explanation:

  • KL 0 = OFF (ignition off position)
  • KL R = ignition position 1 ("run" - some electonics & modules are powered up)
  • KL 15 = ignition position 2 ("accessory" - all electronics & modules re powered)
  • KL 30 = ignition position 3 (where the ignition defauts after starting the engine)
  • KL 50 = ignition start position
Note that I mis-spoke in my earlier post about it working better in KL R - I got the labels backwards... it works best in KL 30.

oh i see what you mean.

yea you are right, you are suppose to turn the key to 2nd position, sometimes even, leave the car running (started)
