2004 X5 4.8is SLS Inactive warning

Hey guys new to this forum but not to BMW. I have the SLS inactive fault on my X5 and I have diagnostic software and know that the control module is bad. My question is how hard it is to code a new module to my truck? I'm am by no means helpless just haven't done much coding. if I spring the $500 bucks for the part I'm not gonna pay Bmw $300 to code it when I know it only takes maybe 20 minutes. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

download DIS V4.7, its free. Then, buy a OBDII reader specific to BMW and do some soldering work to the pins. the software took me awhile to install the software, but well worth it. After all the leg work, you can do some coding, diagnostic work all you want at home. I did all this for my e39 m5.

Thanks. I have all of the software. I was just asking general question on how to code. I have never coded anything (new module).and just wondered if it was easy and some guidance on how to.

oh my bad i read first post too fast!! good luck.. i dont have a x5 .. yet.. hopefully you'll figure it out. I think it would be under the code function. what do you have as software DIS 5.7 DIS 4.4, GT1, INPA? EASYDIS?

I'm not sure which program to use to code the new EHCII Module.....

Use SSS/Progman. It's very user friendly. You have an option to select for module replacement.

I am just curious how did you narrow it down and you are sure it's the module?

Using DIS. I ran through the test procedure to check the module. No voltGe issues using inpa for the height sensors. And I can adjust the height using inpa but not dis because it actually goes off the module and won't function for me. Plus the test plan in DIS said replace the module.

follow what Fmugur said, use SSS progman. look up a youtube video on coding dsc, it looks very user friendly.

Thanks. I haven't bought it yet but I guess I'm going to have to. I fixed the ride height with INPA but absolutely hate the lights on on the dash. Lol silly I know but guess I'm gonna have to break down and buy it. I have searched and called everywhere even WABCO the original maker and can't source anyone to rebuild the module either .
