E53 X5 value these days?

I can't say that I know too much about how much E53's are going for these days.

I've come to the realization that it's probably time to part with mine. The realities of driving two cars both over 10 years old and both over 100k miles is sinking in. It's just a matter of time.

I've got some money and time into mine that I know I'll never get back I get that. I just don't know what a realistic selling price would be. I know it's more about the car itself and less about what I've done to it and replaced over the years.

I've looked at cars.com and see some examples in the $9k to $11k range. I gather a dealer won't give me much for it at all.

It's a 2005 4.4. Sterling gray. 113k miles. Lots of new parts and recent fixes. NOS factory tow package installed a year ago too!

The price of the X has dropped to the point that kids flipping burgers are able to buy one. If you follow the postings on this forum, there are a lot of new owners that are purchasing X5s with problems and are coming to this forum seeking help on fixing their X.

The cost to fix some of the problems on our X is greater than the cost to purchase another vehicle. Valve stem seals, timing chain guides, and tranny rebuild will cost more to fix than what the X is now worth. Who's to say that once you fix one of these major problems that another major problem might need to be addressed. When the timing belt broke on my old Audi, I knew better to donate the car than to repair the engine.

I think you should get guidance from craigslist rather than cars.com
I see tons of E53's in my area and they sell for peanuts, if they even sell those cars.
Close to 200k miles they sell for under $5k.
In 2009 I traded in my 2001 E53 with only 99k miles at the time, for $9000, premium package, surround sound, tow package and a ton of other goodies.
I imagine it would be less than $5000-$6000 now with the same mileage.

As above, I see them going (4.4's) for anywhere from $5000 to $10000 depending on mileage, cleanliness, etc. I see really clean examples priced by dealers @ $10000 - $13000.

I'd sell it privately on Craigslist or Autotrader. If it takes 5 or 6 months to sell then so be it. If you are in a hurry then a trade-in will probably be your best bet, but don't expect more than $5000-$7000 depending on what you are buying.
