Hi,
Got this wierd problem with my 2002 3.0d M57.

Sometimes the just wont start. It cranks but doesnt start.

With ignition on, after a few seconds the temp gange goes all the way to max.

My temp gauge did that, and I remedied it by disconnecting the negative battery cable for 15 minutes. seemed to reset it. Cant help much as far as the no-start issue, maybe fuel pump related? Did you ever change it? How many mile on it?

Could it be the temp sensor thats bad? could that cause no-start? The temp gauge does that when I have the no-start issue, so I'm guessing theres a fault that causes both of these things to happen (Have read about the temp gauge without starting issues, but it is different for me..)

Maybe It's the fuel pump, I don't know.. Can a fuel pump work intermittently?

I have now left the battery unhooked for about 4 hours, in hopes of "resetting" the problem.

Still same issues.. temp gauge goes to red and car just cranks.

Guess my problem is no longer intermittent.. Going to take out the fuel pump relay and test it.

I left the car's battery unhooked over night. The car started just fine this morning.... temp gauge problem gone.

I replaced the fuel pump relay today just in case. I also replaced the fuel filter + regulator.

What other stuff can cause this problem? I'm guessing my problem aint gone. Just waiting for it to happend again....

Okey, so the car was starting again yesterday until now. I finally got INPA hooked up. The codes I get when this problem (temp gauge goes to max and crank but no start)

00f4 Keine CAN id (no CAN id)
004 Oeldruck (Oil pressure)

Any suggestions on what is wrong? this drives me crazy....

My guess is that "no can id" indicates no communicate with DDE.

So I pulled out the main DDE relay. Powered the relay to 12V. Made it click a few times. I also measured resistance and got -0,03.. Should be 0,00.

Wasnt the relay either. But I found alot of corrotion on the contacts going to the DDE. Used some electrical cleaning spray. Hope this helps.

I've read that when the temp gauge maxes out like mine, that could indicate no communicating with DDE. Like the code I get in INPA (no CAN id)

All that corrotion must make some connection issues..

Awesome how I'm rocking this thread alone..
