Half-Adaptive Headlights??

Hey everyone, I have a question. Today, I replaced the cable going to my headlight level sensor in the passenger wheel well. When I was doing some other work, I left it unplugged by mistake and the axle decided to rip the connector. So, I got a connector off a 540 someone was parting out. I spliced the new connector in, soldered the splice, added heat shrink tubing around it, then finished by wrapping it in electrical tape and adding a zip tie for that fresh OEM look. Go to test my headlights, ta-da.... The vertical aim works again. But, I noticed they don't seem to turn left or right. I know they do on my other X. Is that a setting that is turned off in my LCM that I can code? Or maybe something to do with a steering angle sensor? Let me know what you think.

Is your headlight switch in the A (auto) setting? I believe adaptive only works in that setting... at least that's the way it is on my X.

Does your headlights say "Dynamic" on it? It should be inscribed on the outer rings. I believed early 2004s (prior to 04/04 production date) will NOT turn left/right - only auto-leveling (up/down). I know mine (02/04 production date) don't turn left/right. What's your production date?

You got it! I must have one of the first facelifts. Production 09/03. No markings on it. But, My 05 does have the Dynamic written on the outer ring. Maybe I'll have to swap them. Thanks!

Yes, my '05 turns right/left and auto levels. It does receive input from the steering angle sensor. I'd read up on how it all functions and try a reset. I did the same thing to my ABS wire on my e36 once. Stinking wire riped right out.

Would be nice if you could retrofit it on a preface lift.

I'm sure it could be done but what a pain it would be. Then attempt to locate a pair of Dynamic headlights. Go ahead I'll wait.

As soon as you recover from the sticker shock you would probably change your mind on a conversion.

My X is smashed right now so I'm looking for headlights and DANG!! IF I can find them they are super spendy.

Yeah, I don't think the family would notice if traded headlights with the other X5. haha. Have you checked german eBay? Maybe even eBay UK.. Then you could get those european clear ones.
