Unsure of my rebuilt tranny behavior in sport mode
So, is this a normal behavior response of the tranny that the rpm does not really change when switched to sport mode (S) and it is only when accelerated it would hold or delay rpm to a higher rev. Or rpm should immediately go higher every single time when switched to (S) sport. thx all for any help. |

While driving? Actually I don't quite remember. I usually manual down shift when going sport, you know to rip some noob with a loud exhaust.

It sounds like it is working properly. If you are not on the accelerator, just holding your speed on a flat, it won't change gears when you switch to Sport Mode. Shifts points are changed, so yes, it will shift at a higher rpm.

I agree. This sounds like the behavior mine exhibits in sport mode. Holds gears longer... though mine does have much firmer shifts as well due to Dinan programming.

Ditto what others said above. Based on what you wrote...it sounds like the transmission is operating normally.
Moving the gear shift into the DS (automatic sport mode) doesn't change the engine's RPM (even if done while the vehicle is in motion...unless it causes an upshift or downshift)...but it does affect how the transmission shifts when accelerating: (see DS = Automatic mode, sport program). The DS (auto sport mode) elongates shifts to take advantage of the engines power reserves. ![]() ![]()

Thank you so much all for the clarification. I was under the impression something was wrong with the rebuilt transmission. I needed to confirm from other E53 owners if this was normal behavior. And thanks to 'Qsilver7' for the reference. Much appreciated!

To me, it feels like D is more like S now. And the difference between the two modes is much less than it was before I did the update. In D mode, my X is faster off the line and holds a gear longer than it previously did. It also lost 1-2 mpg; from a consistent 16.5 mpg down to 14.5 - 15.5mpg.
