Slow window, fixed with dry lubrication

I thought the regulator was worn on both mine and wife's x5s. I even bought the clip repair kit to refresh them.

Thanks to a mention of putting sun film on reducing the friction I realized I have some special lubrication made for sliding windows such as vinyl. It sprays on liquid dries almost instantly to Teflon powder.

I treated my car first, the driver side was about 2/3 the speed of the passenger side, in winter I had to help the window up it would take 15 seconds to close!

It was tricky to get the lube down into the window track but I used the spray tube and sprayed the track as much as I could reach then sprayed down next to the window and ran the window up and down, repeating a few times quickly to get the lube down the window before it dried.

Instant satisfaction! Wow!

Now my driver window works as well as my passenger window! Even a little better. Last week if I ran both windows up simultaneously, and stopped when the passenger hit the top, the driver window would be at least 6" open. Down was similar. Now the driver window is slightly faster.

Wife's wasn't as bad but I had the realization to actually video the before and after to have an objective result.

I used the HDX brand window lube spray from home Depot.

When it dries it has a white residue but for some reason in the felt/rubber track it doesn't show. It will show on the outer edge but cleans off easily.

I'll upload before & after video soon.

So: videos.

The YouTube play list has before and after results of lowering and raising the window. 25% faster down and 60% faster going up. More importantly the speed now matches the rest of the windows and the motor no longer struggles to raise the window!
