Trans Codes 31 36 3B

2002 X5 4.4i with all options except 4 corner air ride

Using Icarsoft i910 II
Trans is throwing Codes
31-Gear monitoring
36-Gear monitoring 4
3B-Stall Speed monitoring

DME
C9 DMTL Heating

It's in limp mode. I checked the 2 front O2 sensors and they are reading good. For the rear, bank 1 is switching a lot slower than bank 2. Bank 1 voltage is .32V - .54, Bank 2 is the same voltage just quicker at doing it.
I erased the C9 and it did not come back with the engine running for 30 minutes. Voltages stayed the same.

I was going onto a off ramp and was kicking it down to pass another car but it didn't. Noticed a sluggish feeling and the Trans Failsafe Program popped on. Drove it to the house a mile away in limp mode. Numerous attempts to move the vehicle but stays in limp mode. Reverse works perfectly.

Looking for suggestions what it might be.

Like many have posted before, it will help if you included the model of your X. The trans on a V8 is different from the trans on a I6. The trans between V8s such as 4.4, 4.6, and 4.8 are different from one another.

Since you have a 2002 X5 V8 then your vehicle is equipped with the 5HP24 ZF trans. Before you do any serious analysis on the transmission make sure that your charging system is in top shape and you have a healthy battery. Do not overlook this.

Okay next question how many miles do you have on your transmission and what kind of service has been performed on the transmission over the years. If it hasn't been serviced you may want to start there.

Well with the miles on the vehicle and service that it has provided it might be time for the rebuild/remanufactured trans. Have a reputable trans shop run an analysis on the trans and the codes it produces to get a better picture. The codes that you have have been attributed to seal deterioration in the drum. RH phil who is a ZF board "God" can probably give you better insight into the codes and problems your experiencing.

More than likely I would say. Some of the remanufactured Zf are reasonable.
