Speaker Size of non-DSP Audio

Does anybody know the stats of the non-DSP audio? Like RMS wattage?

More importantly, what are the sizes of the each of the speakers? I'm thinking of getting ahold of some GTO JBL speakers to make it sound better.

But that might not work as BMW probably has some propriatry plug for the speakers instead of two simple wires. Am I right?

Alternatively, I could invest $400 US in Bavarian Soundwerks' Stage 1 package which is supposed to give me 6 speakers to replace which they say is an easy installation.

If anybody can shed some light on this topic, I'd be greatful to your insight. I only want to replace existing speakers with better ones. I don't want to drill anything, I don't want to install amps or subs.

I would suggest you to read some of the threads posted on that subject in the stereo section. Unfortunately the X5 factory amp has built-in crossovers which means the sound frequency is filtered before it goes to the speakers and that BMW OEM amp and speakers are matched to each other. It is very difficult to almost impossible to find aftermarket speakers (tweater, mid and woofer) which match the OEM amp frequency. Bavarian Soundwerks indeed offers a speakers replacement package but I do not know how much it improves the OEM sound.

Hmmm...well the Bavarian Soundwerks combo is defintely an option. I agree with you that it's not going to be an earth-shattering upgrade.

I hate how BMW makes everything propriatry. Even windshield wipers. You either buy their $10 ones, which die in 2 months, or you gotta spend $25 US per wiper on PIAA ones.

To do an aftermarket install, I'm guessing there will need to be a stripped interior, new amps, etc. Forget it - not worth it at all.
