Bye bye to the X

I said goodbye to the X5 today. The warranty was getting close to the end and we have another kid on the way. With those expenses in mind and the somewhat small interior, it was time to move on to a more economical choice.

So my 2006 X5 4.4i has been replaced by a 2016 Accord EX. I'll miss driving the BMW, especially with the V8 power and rumble. The new Accord will give me better economy, less time spent at the shop, and, surprisingly, more room inside.

I'll stick around here periodically. It's fun to read the posts and there are some cool people. But I won't be a BMW owner anymore...for now.

As a side note, I discovered the joy of using an auto broker to make the purchase. She made it ridiculously easy and got me a great price on both the new car and trade in value of the X5. If anyone lives in the Seattle area and is interested, PM me and I'll share her contact information with you.

Good choice in getting out of the X and into something new for the Fam situ...
I love our '01, but we have 3 cars and if/when the ol'X gets sideways I am not car less.

Take care of your Fam and when the Jones gets too much, another ride of some fun kind may be in your future.

Yeah, being dependent on a car like an older BMW can be tough. When it was in for the valve stem seal replacement, I had to borrow my dad's car for a week. Thankfully he was willing to do that for me otherwise, it would have been a pretty expensive rental bill.

One day, I'll come back...maybe it will be another X. Maybe it will be a 5-series. Or maybe something completely different.

Thanks for the well wishes! I'll pop in periodically to say hello. And you better let me know what you decide for your 9mm purchase.

The Accord is surprisingly nice. The EX has lots of stuff on it. Sunroof, decent stereo with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, and 30mpg. I was surprised with how roomy it is inside too.

I'll miss the leather seats with seat heaters and heated steering wheel, though. But with the remote start, at least it will have a chance to get warm before I get in on those cold mornings. And I might have to sew on a leather steering wheel wrap.

If anyone is interested, here's my old X5 for sale. They're asking a fair price, I think.
