Tire upgrade question

My 01 E53 still needs rubber. Has 17" wheels, not the best rim size for tire availability. 235/65/R17. Looking at a set of 18" stock E53 rims and tires. is this a good upgrade or a bad idea?
Thanks
3/32" left

If they are cheap and the tires have some thread left, get them.

18" rims are a very nice upgrade! (steer clear of the 19" ones, from what I see, the rims are cheap, but the tires cost $$$$$$$ 20" would be the ultimate upgrade, but , that's a pricey option at best! I dream of a set of 20's! I run the larger iS brakes from a 4.6/4.8is X5, and the 18 inch wheels JUST clear the calipers!

Rootripper,
Wish you were closer to me, geographically: I have a fine azz set of oe Style 69 18" that I replaced with 19" 132s.

The tires mounted are old and not much tread left, but fineazz 18" wheels.

They are taking up space in my basement, but packaging and shipping are a PIA and not cheap from here in HillbillyHeaven.

You will love your 18s, and if you want to make your E53 Mtn Goat-like for winter, keep the 17s and put dedicated snows on them, come Dec in ChiTown area.

I just bought a new set of Style 132's which are staggered 19's, and yes, the tires are expensive and limited. A set of the only michelin's offered cost about $1K - wholesale.

Upgrading from stock 17's, the ride is wonderful--not too aggressive, handling is much improved and I have been getting a lot of compliments on them. I'm very happy.
