Passenger Halo Out / Indicator On?

2006 BMW X5 3.0d

Mrs noticed a warning in the dash cluster
When the "Day Running" lights are on, the Halo on the drivers side works 100%
The Halo on the Passenger side, does not work at all and the passenger indicator is on permanently.

As shown below:
Passenger Side

Drivers Side

One morning, i popped open the plastic hatch cover, fiddled, popped the cover back on, and as i pressed the cover on, the Halo come on and Indicator went off.
Great.... but i knew the fault would return
The next day, sure enough, the situation was back.

When the Lights are switched to Low Beam, the "always on" indicator on the passenger side goes off.

High Beam would work on both side also (until i played again).

This morning, i had a further look, i unplugged the top lamp inside the inspection port (i'm not sure which lamp does what job).
Tested lamp for continuity, nothing, was open circuit
Replaced that plug socket to lamp terminal.

Now, the High Beam doesn't work on the Passenger side too

Below is the passenger side with High Beam switched on:

Can anyone please help me in this area?
I have done a lot of reading, seems the Passenger side Halo goes out often and people just replace the bulb or buy some aftermarket LED kit for both sides.

Thank you for any help or suggestions

EDIT: I poached a photo from another post for illustration purposes

Is the connection at the top, the High Beam?
And the Connection he is holding the Halo?
Our '06 X5 also has another bunch of wires in the port too.

I bought the 10w ones listed above. So far so good, but I've only had them a few months. It's a bit tough to get them to turn in the sockets as they have no 'grip' like the factory ones do.

Thanks admranger
Did your OEM Halos fail as i have described above??
So far, that is what i am trying to work out.

When the Halo Fails, does the adjacent indicator illuminate?

One failed and I got the side marker light warning. I didn't do all the tests you did.

I don't remember the adjacent indicator illuminating, but I didn't look to be honest.

Ok, i have removed the Halo Lamp and the High Beam lamp
Tested both for continuity, both are blown

I have some LED Halo replacements coming (10Watt LED)

Can anyone recommend a good H1 for the High Beam?

Do you have adaptive bi-xenon headlights? If you do, the upper bulb in the compartment with the AE (angel eye/halo) bulb is the Flash-to-Pass (or DRL if coded). The F-T-P bulbs illuminate when you pull the stalk TOWARD you. The high beam feature is activated when you push the stalk AWAY from you.

The bi-xenon headlamps use a single bulb for the low & high beam. When high beams are called for, a flap moves to allow the bulb's beam to be thrown differently. The bulbs closest to the grills...again, are for F-T-P or DRL.

Thanks heaps Qsilver7

Yes, it was a bit confusing for me at the start
Yes, we have the Adaptive Bi-Xenon (HID)

Although your description seems different to what i found
In the Inspection Port, i have 2 lamps in view
The Top one being the H1 lamp for the DRL
The Bottom one being the Halo.
This being a 2006 e53 3.0d Sports Pack, Premium Pack

I have purchases some replacement H1's, as one of them was blown
These: Philips X-treme Vision +130% H1 (Twin Pack) | PowerBulbs

And i purchased some LED retro fit replacements for the Halo bulbs.
These: 10W CREE LED Angel Eye Halo Light Bulb BMW E39 E60 5 Series M5 x5 E53 E63 E65 X3 | eBay

Am i correct here Qsilver7?

This DRL or Flash to Pass stuff

All i know, is those inner larger lights come on when High Beam is selected
(stork forward)
And they also illuminated when the stork is pulled back (as for most cars)

I have read somewhere on this forum, that the those lights don't receive full voltage when on High Beam, then receive full voltage when Flash to Pass is chosen?? Is that right

And that you can code them not to come on etc
And that i can also code the "Halo" lamps not to do a "Cold Check" to avoid flickering on start up.

We don't get the Bi-Xenon lights here in NZ - and I think Australia is the same as us - the Xenon projector lamp is low-beam only and F-T-P and hi-beam is the inner H1 fitting.

We also have the full "six-gun salute" as standard (Xenons, H1s and H11 Fogs on all at once) and have rear fogs fitted as standard too.

Salty, yes - the indicator lamp will illuminate at half power when a halo lamp goes out.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention - I can't see any difference in H1 brightness between F-T-P or hi-beam. Both are flipping bright!

And, it's normal for the Xenon lamp to measure open circuit - as you mention, it's an HID lamp and there's no filament to measure the resistance of.

Be careful poking around in there - the Xenon HID systems use a very high voltage. It'll bite you like a small alligator!!
