Xenon Headlight intermittent problem.

I have a 2001 X5 3.0
Original owner.

I recently started having a problem with one of my xenon headlights.
After about 10 minutes, the headlight will turn off.

But if I turn the lights off for a few seconds, then back on, it will come
on again. Usually for about 10 more minutes before the same problem
happens.

I changed the xenon bulb, but that didn't solve my problem.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong? My best guess is the ballast is bad.

Thanks.
-Danny

The wiring is probably disintegrating. I had this happen on mine and caused the bulb to prematurely fail. The only way to know is to. Pull the headlights and check the wiring. If it is fixing it is the least expensive way to go it is not for the weak of heart since there is a lot of soldering to do to repair all the connections. You could buy a new headlight since most used will have the same issue since the insulation is biodegradable per EU standards and if moisture got in there it will degrade.

The OP has a 2001 X5 which has external wiring for the Xenon lights. Check the ballast under the headlight by swapping faulty side to the other side and see if the fault follows it or search fleabay for an OEM replacement and change it out.
If it is not the ballast then the the wiring between the LKM and ballast or the LKM are most likely faulty.
I suggested the OEM ballast because of the rubber boot the comes mounted on the high voltage wire to the Xenon bulb that seals the back of the headlight unit.
