turning off TPMS

hi all

does anyone know of a way to turn off, permanently, the tpms system on a 2003 4.6is E53?

since i got the car i have constantly had the warning to check my pressures every time i turn the car off... i checked the pressures and all OK, reset the TPMS system but the message never went away.

after some more research i realized that one of the wheels is not fitted with a sensor and concluded that this must be the issue.

i have recently changed my rear tires to non run flats and would now like to get rid of the check tire message.

anybody any ideas????

Pat

You can do this via INPA....PA Soft doesn't seem to respond to it.

Hi Jopecasa

I have turned it off (deactivated) in INPA, thanks for the info, but the waning is still coming up on 5 he dash, check tyre pressures & tyre control inactive....can warnings be turned off either in INPA or DIS ?

I have been having trouble connecting to the car with DIS but I may have sorted this out :-) just need to have a play and work out how to use it.

Thanks again

Pat

Did you clear the EM and IM codes after deactivation?

It can be turned-off....I'll check later when I get the chance to log in the SAV.

Can't remember....

The battery is some TPMS are only good for 5 years. If you know the reason why the tpms light is on, just get a new sensor install.

Or you can fix it the redneck way Black electrical or duct tape over the light.

LOL, unfortunately it's a warning message not a light ;-) thing is I am going away from run flat tires so will know pretty quickly if 1 is flat, and I check my tires regularly, daily by eye and pressures once week, truck driver/mechanic thing.

I didn't think that e53's had tpms sensors? Mine doesn't. I remember reading some where that it calculates wheel speed, and when one is off it throws the error. That's the way it was in my e46 as well.

Are you resetting it correctly? Make sure psi is the same, key in the on position, etc?

The only other way I know how to disable the system is to have it recoded. I paid a local guy to turn it off on my e92.

The LCI models (2004 onwards) don't have a physical TP sensors - as stated they use wheel rotational data to detect a low tire pressure condition.

Pre-face lift, a full TPMS system , with a sensor in each wheel, transmitting at 433MHZ (in the USA at any rate), was an option. A 2003 4.6i (esp. pre 10/03) could well have been ordered with the full TPMS package.

A missing sensor would likely be an issue for the system, as has been suggested by the OP.
