Question Engine Failsafe issue in Ogden UT need garage suggestions

Howdy!
Just found this forum this morning and super impressed with the amount of quality knowledge being shared.
I'm located in Ogden Utah, and have recently picked up a 2001 X5 4.4 and its developed some issues during a trip I just took it on. I'm getting an intermittent the DSC and ABS light with Engine Failsafe Program warning. This was coming and going during the six hour trip there and then back over the weekend. Drove it for about an hour yesterday and same lights and message was displayed and it started to run rough then lost all power in traffic. I beached it on the side of the road and turned the ignition off and on and it was then drive able (albeit running rough) so I was able to make it home.

I don't own a code reader (I need one, anyone have a suggestion that would work with my X5, mini countryman and 2004 Porsche 911?) Hints on possible solutions?

Looking for a recommendation for a good solid shop in the Ogden Utah area. I hate spending money on garages teaching themselves on my vehicle for diagnostics that an experienced shop would be quicker to solve.

Codes were showing throttle control, among others, so that was cleaned, codes reset and all is well (so far).
