Is my car burning out my OBD II cables?

I bought this 04 X5 that had water damage from the sunroof. I can't get my INPA software to work. I have other BMWs and the software worked great until I plugged into the this new x5. Is it possible that the E53 is blowing out the cables? Everything worked fine until I plugged it into my E53 and every time I got a new cable i first plugged it into the new E53. So, if the the e53 is damaging the cables, how do you find the problem and fix it?

Check fuses on the problem e53. Don't look at the manual, just check each fuse for a blown one and check the power distribution box for corrosion if there was water damage.

Here is a update. It was a bad Fuse Box. I found one EBay for $32 and after I got the right OBD II cable, that mean soldering terminal 7 & 8 together, it all works. Still much to do for this car, but I'm on my way.
