MS43 guys (3.0i), anyone getting into your ECU's?

The MS43 tuning they are doing over at e46fanatics is pretty amazing. They are going well beyond coding and into altering fuel trim, timing, etc.

I just ran into a thread where they are changing the target temp setting of the electric thermostat.

Unfortunately it is still wooshing all over my head at the moment but I know enough that it is pretty revolutionary. Heck, some of the advanced users are tuning for ebay turbo kits, and making them work!

Anyone here following or doing this already?

I'm trying to figure this stuff out too, but........

I haven't found step by step instructions or anyone who will explain. I do however have an Internet buddy in Texas who is getting ready to post some how to's on throttle position mapping. We'll see It's all really cool.

I have also been chatting with a gent in Washington who is currently working on an ms42 tune. These are not readily available to my understanding. At least not as popular as an ms43 tune. He currently has several other tunes including some v8 models. I'll be courious as to what he can gain from my m54 beta

Are you finding any step by step instructions? Or not necessarily instructions, but programs, locations, ect.

RB yeah, true, I've been looking at what they are doing but it gets so deep sometimes I just think screw it and just get a shark lol!

Heli, yes the main proponents over at e46fanatics are making this open source and encouraging people to get into it. I've seen some threads about mS42 also but have not opened them to see what they can do with them. They have wiki pages and youtube vids about it, not had the time to watch yet though.

The discussions on MS42 and 43 with links to the youtube vids, programs files, and other sites with info are all here.

I started digging into your link last night. This is exactly what I want to do. I don't think the capability existed 10 years ago when I was doing this with GM 3800 SII/LS1 using HPTuners.

I want to run one (or two) turbos on my 3.0, and you absolutely have to rework power enrichment tables and so on to do that without blowing up.

Thanks for the link.

I love e46fanatics. Ton of info for the m54b30 and driveline. Tuning is on my short list. Gotta get through this semester before I can dig deep. Loved my shark injector I had on my previous X5. I'm thinking going the custom route due to headers and cams for optimization and for the learning experience.

On a side note, adding turbos/ supercharger would be downright awesome. If anyone does this, I would definitely be subscribed. Till then...back to advanced human physiology.

LJ, yeah, I believe this was a fairly recent development, most everyone who knew anything about it kept the info close to their chest. If you get boosted, please do share the build with us!

GD, yeah, I follow the fanatics for the same reason. Lots of characters there too, discussions can get animated and entertaining lol!

g300d where are you...I want to see what you were reading. I need to figure out if I can get a tune on this car BEFORE I rip it to the ground to put turbos on it.

Did they say what the best software suite to do this kind of thing was?

I need to be able to change injector sizing, modify fuel tables, etc. It sounds like you were reading up on this already.

Hasnt really sunk in yet though lol, so I'm not gonna be much help.

Daniel_f mentions a few programs in the first post of the ms43 thread I linked to earlier. Galletto and JmGarageFlasher IIRC.

Here is some throttle map tuning but for NA.

And check out ms43 wiki here.

Awesome. Better than starting from zero. I can at least start casting in the right part of the lake.

Thanks
