Polishing
I did mine recently as well and am very impressed with the difference in performance and looks! I polish my boat every year so have a nice 8" akita polisher with wool and cotton pads. I used 3M compound then the 3M white polishing to finish. I did sand them first-350,800, 2000 all wet sanded than the polishing. I haven't clear coated, kind of thinking they never came that way and if I need to do it every couple of years for better output I am ok with that.

I used Martin Senour automotive clearcoat from NAPA. Put 3 coats on then baked. Did the same thing to my daughters 2002 Beetle last year and it is holding up very well, even in the climate of the Virginia coast.
