Rear diff cover

Anyone know if the rear diff cover from a 4.4 X5 will fit the diff for a 3.0 X5?

Some time ago I bought 4.10 diffs from a 2001 3.0. to replace the 3.90s in my 4.6. I haven't made the swap yet but I checked multiple sources that said it is a direct plug and play. I just measured the centerline of 3 of the bolts on the lower part of the cover on both rear diffs. The span is the same. One of those that told me the two diffs are a direct swap was a BMW tech that I trust. There were also a couple of members here that also thought so.

I will be taking the diffs to have them checked over and new seals installed later this week and I can ask the shop if you would like.

That would be nice.

Thanks Brian

For my 2004 3.0 VIN, realoem lists 2 part numbers for diff covers, a manual and automatic.

Realoem lists them to be compatible with the V8's.

Interestingly, one part number was listed to be compatible with the 4.6is, and the other for the 4.8is.

Although from all I've read the diffs themselves are interchangeable, the covers themselves may not all be, based on realoem.
