can't set time/date or anything in the MID

so i inherited my grandfather's 2003 x5 and sometime this year he had the key/computer reset at the dealer since all of the functions stopped working. now i'm not sure if this was an issue before that but i can not set the time/date or anything for that matter. when i hold down on the clock button the only thing that happens is the colon starts to blink, no option to change time or anything appears.

I have disconnected the battery but nothing changed. it also does not power off when i turn off the car, i have to turn it off myself each time

oh and it randomly shuts off on it's own as well. it's all very strange

Did you press the SET button (should appear on the far right)?

Once you've pulled up the clock to appear in the MID...

press the SET button which should bring up the prompts to change the hour/minute...

Once the hour/min & am/pm is correct...press the SET button again to save your setting.

Follow up with correcting the DATE...which is performed the same way...you have to bring the DATE up on the MID, then press the SET button etc. ..when done, press the SET button to save your changes:

A few questions to see if you have a radio issue or a larger issue:
Radio issues only? In other words are there any other issues that are random? Turn signals, four way flashers, etc.
  • When rotating the key, do they work then stop?
What is the voltage at the Battery (in the trunk) vs the battery voltage at the terminals under the hood at engine off?
What is the voltage in theses two locations when the engine is idling?

Which instrument cluster do you have...the high or low (base) cluster?

If you have the low cluster...does your MID have the BC icon on the lower right button (shared with the clock face button)?

I ask because...maybe your gramps replaced the MID due to pixel issues and installed a high MID with a low cluster? Just a thought.

Don't hold the clock button - just press it once. The clock display should change to that shown in Qsilver7's first image.

the low which is the alphanumeric one as they describe it, i believe? yea the bc's there. I'm almost certain it's the original, he would have mentioned to me that he had it replaced but it's definitely not a newer unit.

i remember it didn't work then he had it fixed and now it's back with the issue. very weird.
