what does this screw in from?

side mirror cover broke off so i just ordered a new one plus the trim part and i'm wondering where this screw comes from? I assume the trim but I didn't see any screw holes from the pictures of it.

That's NOT from the factory. There's no screw there on my old 3.0i as well as the current 4.8iS

I resent that this is my grandfather's truck I inherited after he passed away this year he's had it for 10 years & took care of it. one of the best mechanics ever, og from Cuba.

now knowing it's not factory i'm gonna assume that was a temporary fix he did for when the mirror cover was on but not tight because of broken tabs. I'll take it out before putting on the new cover thanks.

You can assume anything you want. Tabs just don't break for no reasons at all. I'm going to assume that someone didn't have the right tool or knowledge on how to remove the cover and broke the tab(s) while trying to remove the cover.

A temporary fix would have been duct tape. The screw behind the mirror to secure the mirror cover to me is more of a permanent fix.
