E53 X5 Fuel Gauge Markings?
Sadly, i may have even read the answer but i've forgotten. What does the 20, 40, 60, 80 markings on the Fuel Gauge represent? I thought it may have been "Litres of Fuel", but as i can easy fit more than 90 litres of Diesel in my X5, then the 80 at the Full mark, is kind of pointless. Any ideas? |

I always thought it was litres.
On mine, when I put in 90L, it doesn't move for the first 10L or so, so the numbers sort of match the litres left. |

Out of interest, what size are our tanks in the E53 3.0 Diesels? I Googled and got a figure of 93 Litres, makes sense from economy calculations i've made. Last edited by Salty_Dog; 09-12-2016 at 11:32 PM. |

I think they are all 93L, no matter which engine.
I've always worked on 93L for my diesel. Most I have put in has been a bit over 90L when the distance to empty was maybe 20km I think. Always funny to see the distance to empty hit 999km each time I fill it. Sometimes takes over 100km for it to drop below 999km as well.

I filled up yesterday and got 91 litres in. I did a test yesterday with cruise control set for 100k's on dead flat road The Odometer got to 173k's before the Range moved off 999km. Ironically, when i slowed down for a road work section at 190Km on the Odometer, the range went back to 999km So guess its is safe to say, we get 1100k's from a tank, maybe 1180k's if you are brave. A lot of my driving was done at 110km/h (GPS set) so it was 118ks indicated on the Speedo Im not sure what the most economical driving speed is, perhaps its 85km/h?? Im not sure, but you'd go a long way. Last edited by Salty_Dog; 09-13-2016 at 12:41 AM. |

Travelling at 90-100kph on flat-ish roads I've seen nearly 300kms on the full tank before the range drops below 999kms.
Not sure I'd like to try for 1300kms range but it seems almost possible.
