Colour coded bumpers and arches?

Anyone here gone for the colour coded bumper look. Particularly interested in seeing 00-03 E53 in grey but feel free to show me your beauties

Can't remember where it was, but just recently somebody posted a picture of a grey facelift with all things color matched... Maybe somebody can link to it...

I see color coded plastics on X5's for sale every so often. Was this a factory option or something the owners did?

Edit: BTW, anyone who's in the market (and fluid enough) there's an appearance package X5 for sale in Dallas on CL. I think it was ~$4500 if memory serves. I tried emailing but got no response.

There was no *factory* option, but there was/is available an 'appearance kit' which was primered and ready for the paint booth. Those would have most likely been dealer installed.

The 'kit' on the Sahara Beige X5 in the link above is an example of someone who painted the trim from the 4.6is. You can also tell that the car was likely in a rear end collision since the VIN sticker is missing from the rear lift gate. We also can't tell from those pics how thorough the job was.

In my opinion, to do this right the shop should sand and flex primer/paint the OE parts. I painted the trim MTech on my E39 and made sure it was sanded smooth. Painted in body color, that textured plastic looks like a crappy short cut to my eye.

ok, I personally dont like the look of that beige X5 above. BUT I almost bought a 4.6 where the wheel arches were painted same color as body and it looked smart. BUT in this case I am not a fan.
Having said that I'd rather rocks hit the black plastic molding and potentially chip it instead of hitting painted moldings and chipped that.

And that was part of BMWs idea for the X5 when it came to molding. Durability. You go off road at the slightest and the rocks and pebbles will be hitting up against that molding. You would rather the molding take the beating as opposed to the pain flaking and chipping off. This is one reason I love my X5 4.6is, the black sapphire with the black molding. Its looks so good and well integrated without being painted.

It's not that I don't like it as such but as mine is a 3.0d pre facelift I find the front a little cut off? Kind of half finished. Mines grey and I'm considering it but also adding the is splitter to the front. Just to finish it off.
