Had to head out of town for the weekend to visit a family so I haven't been able to get underneath it to further inspect and instead disconnected the battery just in case.
No one has any ideas or has heard anything like it? I'm sure I'll track it down just if anyone has experienced anything similar it may make the process quicker. |

Sounds to me like a faint version of the warning sound that the key is in the ignition.

So I pulled the undertray and proceeded to try to one by one disconnect harnesses in order to make the sound go away and diagnose it. Voltage regulator, transmission harness, fan harnesses, etc, nothing.
Then I went to the fuse box in the glove box and one by one disconnected fuses. Fuse 41, rain sensor made it go away. The headliner is out as I've been sealing the sunroof. I'm still at a loss as to where the sound is coming from but it has to do with that fuse. Very odd |

Found the sound
Hi
I found the source of the siren sound. When you have the Servitronic steering, there is a valve on the steeringrack. I suppose it is nothing to do with it. I changed the steering, and the sound was there before and after. |

My truck also exhibits the faint alarm sound. I believe it's normal as I've seen enough e53's and e39's with the same behavior.

Weird. Why did it go away when I specifically pulled the rain sensor fuse? How could those two things be possibly linked?

I don't and never have had a siren sound and I have had a hearing test though a few years ago.
I know of no reason that the steering would be linked to the rain sensor but I suppose it could be. There might be something else on the same circuit as the rain sensor that would be identified in the fuse box. Have you tried using an auto stethoscope to pinpoint the source?

The Bentley Manual says fuse 41 (5 amp) is general module and rear wiper control.
It looks like fuse 10 (15 amp, horn relay) is directly across from that.
