Odd problems after battery drain.
Hey guys,
Having a couple a weird issues after my battery died and i boosted it. So, here is the story; I wake up for work, go to start the x5 and its dead. Pull out the booster pack and give her a boost and she starts right up. Fast forward to end of work day. Go to start the truck and its asking me for a code on the cluster. Now, i've had this happen before, and i would just enter 0000 on the NAV unit, and i could start it. Here is where the problem starts... my NAV screen is blank.. the MK4 dvd unit in the trunk is getting no power at all.. checked fuses, they tested fine... Is there a way i can disable the immobilizer in INPA? i think its the EWS3 module in my car. I got the car towed to my house and its been sitting there with the battery charger for like a week now. 2004 4.4i with navi. Any advice? |

I would start with having your battery checked. If it checks out good find the source of the power drain.

The issue is not with the battery or anything draining it.. i think i might have left a map light on or something which caused the drain... The issue is i cant start my car lol... its asking for the immobilizer code, which i cant input because my nav screen is blank. wondering if there is a work around in INPA. |

If you leave a light on and lock the doors, the car will turn the lights off to avoid precisely the problem you are having. The car knows that you have locked it, and lights go off right away. If you do not lock the door, the car assumes that lights on is an error, and it turns them off after 16 minutes.
I don't know why the Nav screen is blank, but you might find some joy in using jumper cables from a car that is running. Your car does an ignition bypass when it is locked. If a crook comes along and breaks a window to get in, the car will not start and the doors will not unlock. The crook has to climb in and out of the window, and this tends to keep them on the outside -- why bother breaking into stuff that you cannot take with you when you go? You come along and unlock the door, but it still will not start. With the low power condition, this can be true. Start your wife's car and connect the jumper cables to the X5, and then see if you can affect a reset of the locking system by locking and unlocking again. It sounds as if your car might "think" that it is still locked, when it is not. Not only can you use the remote to lock and unlock the car, physically put the key into the lock on the driver door. This might not work, but if it does it will save on the diagnostic charges for your mechanic to do it. |

I dont think i have a low power issue anymore. I charged the battery fully over night on a trickle charge and still the same thing happens. Im going to try and unlock the car using the key in the door method. Will update after work today. |

If the battery is weak/old, you can charge it until the cows come home and it will still be weak. You need a known good power source. Use some jumper cables connected to a donor that is running and you should have good power without regard to the status of the battery in your car. If you can jump start the car today, and tomorrow you need to jump start it again, then you need a battery.

Only thing now is the navigation screen is still blank, so i might have to get a new DVD MK4 unit. |
