Airbags Deployed with no impact/collision
I have a '06 BMW X5 4.4i (one owner, 130K miles). While driving on the highway yesterday, traveling at normal highway speeds, my passenger side airbags deployed. There were no cars in my immediate vicinity, and the road (I270 North in Maryland) is in exceptionally good shape. At first I thought I may have hit some debris, but I felt absolutely nothing, When I eventually got off the highway and back to work, I took a closer look at the car - to FIND NO DAMAGE, or sign of impact whatsoever - front, sides, undercarriage - nothing. I called BMW NA and at first they were very helpful, but when it was escalated to some "resolution specialist" he outright asked me why I was calling them. When I explained what had happened. After explaining why i was calling, he said he would take it to his supervisor and they would get back to me in 3-5 business days. Needless to say this is just not acceptable, my question - has this happened with anyone else out there? This is my 4th BMW, and 15th in our family, I also own 2 BMW motorcycles and I have never experienced something like this.

Never heard of this.
I would have said because your airbags went off for no reason almost causing me to have a heart attack and kill myself/others and I want you to figure out (A) WHY and (B) pay to resolve this issue while I drive a 2014 (insert BMW of your choice here)

Thats exactly what I said! Thank goodness, there were not a lot of cars on the road, and I have over 30 years of driving experience- or I would have had a serious problem. The anxiety is still with me - I don't scare for much (call me stupid, not brave), but this really unnerved me. I have lost all confidence in the car - which I love.

These links are for....... 1) Takata airbags (not used in X5) that have a propellant defect, causing them to deploy incorrectly DURING an inpact. and..... 2) Seat occupant sensor mat that, when defective, keeps airbag from deploying DURING an accident while seat is occupied. These links in no way address the OPs issue, random airbag deployment.
