Tire Pressure Monitor Reset
Vehicle: 2005 X5 3.0 AT Tire Pressure monitoring via ABS sensors; no sensors in tires
In the time I have owned the X5 (my daughters first vehicle) I often wondered if the tire pressure monitoring system works. It has never triggered the warning light over the last year or so of use, even as temperatures dropped here in Western NY state.
Last week, I put two new tires on it (front position), and, of course, as soon as I started it up and drove it, the Tire Pressure warning light came on. I have verified that all four tires are set to identical pressures. As stated in the first line of the post, this system is the ABS-signal based system, not the system using individual sensors in the tires.
I have done a search here in the forum, and found a chart which says "press reset button five times with key on" for this application. Well, I have tried a variety of ways to push the reset button-with key on, engine not running, key on, engine running, key off, coffee cup in my hand, etc. Tried five times, ten times, and a few other ways. I have driven it about 35 miles and the light still stays on.
Anyone have any thoughts on what else to try, or suggest what I'm not doing correctly?
