Hello every one, New Member here. Been a BMW fan for a while now, currently driving my 3rd E46 which is a 2003 330i 6 speed. But just bought my first SAV which is a 2001 x5 3.0i. It's a high mileage car but the previous owner took very good care of it, the interior is MINT. Heated seats, heated steering wheel, power everything even the adjustable steering column. Of course there is a list of maintenance items that need to be addressed but there is one nagging issue. The rear tailgate, does not lock after opening it. I can open the hatch from the inside of the car with the button and then I can open the small tailgate with the button on top of the tailgate. But when I go to close it, it does not lock in the upright position. I have to open and close it numerous times before the motorized lock actually catches and locks it closed.
Has anybody else come across this issue, and if so how can I address it?

Thanks in advance for your help.
