What is this ? Pl see Pic attached

On my 2002 X 5, 4.6is ... Please see attached picture

While replacing vacuum tubes for a P0491 error -secondary air injection system insufficient air flow bank 1,

Arrow 1 (& finger) on picture

what is that gizmo called and its purpose ? The nozzle where the vacuum tube connects at its rear broke off. So need to buy used or new.

Arrow # 2

What do these things do ? & what is that knob at the front of that little box ? seems it can be rotated for something ?

Elementary questions for most of you....
Thank you

I think that is part of the vacuum system... that hose that is coming from the intake goes to that.

In the picture attached the part that you are pointing at is #4 that goes to the #1. That system is for the secondary air pump that is for emisión purposes. Hope that helps

Thank you - yes real help.

Can you url this diagram on realoem.com. I need to purchase part # 4.(bypassed now) - hopefully that stops the perennial Idiot check engine light. (Its always something or the other on this car).

Also that tube # 10 ...goes to.. the rear of the engine ? Need to replace that also.
Thx

Since the 11 digit BMW part nbrs are visible in the post above...all you have to do is go to RealOEM.com - Select Your BMW Model and type that 11 digit number into the part number search box...and it will take you to the diagram. If other BMW models use the same part number...then you'll need to make a few more selections that apply to what model and engine and BMW market you're looking for.

And if you do the above, when you get to the diagram/part number index...if you look along the top of the page...you'll see links (aka bread crumbs) which indicates how you got to that specific diagrams ( I believe it was engine/vacuum control). That way, if you're not familiar with the part database...you'll know how to get back to the same area of diagrams in the future.

Thanks Qsilver7. Appreciate it.

(PS: kept turning that knob on #1 Electric valve, had no end point either direction; possibly changing the resistance or even air flow. Its an old car so not sure if these things work.)
