Coolant indicator float missing

I got an oil change yesterday and found out later that the red/orange indicator float in the coolant tank is no longer there. Mechanic doesn't know what happened. I checked thoroughly with a flashlight but it's no where to be found so it's not like I can even wedge it out if stuck. Would it be possible that it somehow went down through the hole?

Can I purchase the float only?

Dont ovethink it or worry...they break off their mount and fall to the bottom. Unles it disentegrated into tiny pieces [highly unlikely]...its down inside.

A simple google search with a few BMW specific key words should bring up images. I know Bluebee and othes have cut e39 & e38 coolant tanks in half...the e53 tank has same design.

EDIT: I just typed "BMW Coolant tank float broke off" into a google search box and clicked images...got hundreds of pics and links to past same issue

No, they arent sold separately...do the google search for visual.

I replaced a waterpump on a 335. The tip was wedged in the pump though that was not the cause for failure.
