265/70 17s on! And I finally can use 1st gear.
I have to say I love the way the new set-up feels. I can use 1st gear (MT) now and also I'm enjoying gear reduction in the other gears as well. Also the ride is pretty plush. I will most likely do a lift just based on how it could look. Thanks for looking Last edited by Ojai5; 06-30-2018 at 10:26 AM. |

Is your speedo out by much? I’d like to see it after a lift, how many inches are you thinking of going?

Thank you.
I believe I read that the speedo will be off 8-9% I have contacted Fluid Motion to get one of their 2" lift kits. Also, I have two round LED 6" lights to be mounted to the frontend. Should look pretty cool. It sounds crazy but my x5 really drives much better with these tires. The ride is so good. |

BMWs are optimistic for speed by at least 5-6%, so your reading may be only 2-3% lower than actual.
I'll be honest - that tire package totally changes the look of the X5 - makes it look a lot like a Chev Blazer.

Your 265/70R17s are 99.3 inches in circumference vs the OEM 235/65R17s at 91.1 inches. So you going 9% farther for every revolution of the tire. My speedo reads 5% high based on traffic radar signs (40 mph displayed with 42 mph on the speedo).
So you're probably reading 3-4% low on your speedo. 2002 X5 3.0 344,400 miles 2014 428i 38,800 miles 2004 325i Sold at 123,600 miles 2001 325i Sold at 66,000 miles 1970 Firebird Under restoration |

Awesome! Yes, I still can't believe I can actually use 1st gear instead of always rolling through stop signs in 2nd.
I am going to continue to evolve mine into a street dakar rally X5 This is a picture of mine with the 265/70/17. I really does work well with the manual trans.[/QUOTE] |

This is AWESOME. I love the look and thank you for posting the tire sizes. Now to find some cheap 17's. Mines a 4.4 but have the same plans as you. Light bar, bull horn, lift, and more.
