Remote Keyless Entry Issue

Okay so a couple of weeks ago the remote keyless entry stopped working on the X5. The central lock system still works just fine and the keys are transmitting just fine. All fuses are good. I checked the rear amplifier antenna on the real tailgate and the three wires that go into it are red, purple and yellow/white. There is 12 volts on the red all the time, the purple/white is energized with 12volts when the ignition comes on but the yellow/white has nothing. I saw on you tube where a tech had hooked up a labscope to the 3 wires that I referenced and it shows that the yellow/white wire should have a 12volts coming through it. I check my wires at the tailgate and see no breakage on the yellow/white wire. In the bentley manual on( page 600-9) they mention the vehicle has a keyless entry remote module (FBZV). has anyone heard of the FBZV module and where is it located on the X5? Stumped!!!

My x5 started doing as you describe. I was able to get the remote to work when I would slam the trunk. I'm suspecting a loose connection somewhere. That is because it's not related to the door ajar test.

I found this: when the remote didn't work while the tailgate is closed it WOULD WORK if the tailgate was open to limited effect (e.g. I noticed the alarm was prepped and I would get the confirmation blink on the flashers when I shut the tailgate. )

Try to lock/ unlock with tailgate open then right after giving it a good firm shut. I think we may have the same problem and can help resolve this infuriating issue.

When mine first did it I would slam the tailgate glass and the remote would work a few times but when I returned to the car, no go.

I adjusted the rubber stops on my tailgate and now the remote has been working since but the car hasn't been driven and the temp outside went from zero to 40 so I'm mentally prepped to have my remote stop working the first time I drive somewhere.

My radio reception is terrible which may offer another clue.

Could it be something as simple as a dead battery in the remote?

I've got two keys one is 2 months old from the dealer and other less than a year. Both keys are transmitting so its not the battery. I have tried to eliminate the simple things first.

Test the panic mode: hold the trunk button for five seconds if the key is still talking to the car maybe it will set off the alarm. Or: press add hold the unlock button. Will auto down work? Did you try with hatch open?

Sounds similar to me. None of my keyfobs would work (unlock/lock the vehicle). Manually inserting into key hole would unlock the vehicle and obviously would start the vehicle. I checked the fuses, FZV antenna, dws red blinking light under the rear view mirro, even sent one keyfob off for repair (battery/soldering). Still wouldn't work.

Then when I tried to insert key into driver side door it wouldn't unlock the vehicle. It would turn freely left and right. Had to call TripleA and have them jimmy the door open and press the center lock button. Upon entry of the vehicle, key would start the vehicle no problem. But rear passenger doors would not open, even if you tried to manually pull the door handle from inside. Center lock/unlock button didn't work either. Door lock ended up being broken. Not the door lock actuator but the actual door lock itself.

Had to order door lock direct from Germany, supply registration, license, the whole nine. Upon replacement of the door lock, ALL doors unlocked. Both keyfobs now work (unlock/lock)...

I am not positive but I think there is some sort of transmission that goes on between the actual door lock when it connects/touches the actuator to send a signal to the central locking system to unlock the vehicle. Must've been stuck in limbo and the lock finally gave out.

The genius who created the E53 decided to only have one way in the vehicle is beyond me. No passenger key hole, no trunk key hole. Dead car battery or door lock issue and you are SOL.

Last possible thing I can think of is the GM3 module.

My key recently stopped working. I followed the new key initiation procedure and it started working again (the one where you insert it into the ingition while holding the buttons). Have you tried that yet?

Curious as to how you know the key is transmitting if it fails to unlock or lock the truck? On my X I heard a beep when the truck is lock and unlock. Are you hearing the beep, but the door is still not unlocking/locking?
