door handle buggered

Hi guys, drivers door wouldn't open yesterday, expect the carrier cable is caput, I have no worries changing it,but just wondering, have any of you bought and used the cheap ebay ones, $35 odd? Wonder how long will last? And, while it seems that only the actual cable itself is the culprit, is it possible to replace just the cable? couldn't find any on ebay. cheers

Usually not the cable; the ear on the pot metal spring housing breaks off. I have not used anything but the "genuine BMW' part, but others have and they seem to work but are a bit of a challenge to fit.

On my other X, there was a DIY here, I think, to fix that w/o replacing the whole mechanism. I need to replace it on the current X, and I will buy an aftermarket piece for it.

I have used this supplier for both front doors. 18 months to date on the front left about 6 on front right. Not $35, though, just a little more. All the right holes lined up, so no issues so far.
