Acidgreeny, all joke aside. My question still stands. What exactly is happening, are you losing sound or are you not able to turn the screen on...?

Remember (or take note) that not all X5 radios/stereos are the same. My radio is in the dash (as part of the Professional CD player), I still have the CD changer in the back but with no DSP I have no audio modules at all in the battery tray.

There's a lot of variation, so OrangeFurious wasn't being totally daft.

The battery tray can contain a radio/amp combo (the BM54 module?) or just the DSP amp module. Sometimes the radio or amp module is in the left rear compartment under the CD changer too.

If I was adding a Dynavin or an Eonon to my car, there's nothing to run to the back. All the wiring is up front, including all spearker wiring. I'd look at relocating the MID display to the boor/trunk though, so I don't lose the MID functions.

If your car has Factory Nav and/or DSP then you will likely need a loom from the front to the back, to connect the the speakers at the very least. Each aftermarket unit will be spec'ed for a specific factory config. so make sure you get the right one for your exact car.

acidgreeny, since your exact car has neither NAV or DSP but still has the radio/amp module in the rear, you'll need a loom run from front to back for the speakers, some signaling and the aerial.

Wpoll thanks for the reply . I have the radio module in the boot but my question stands. After watching a youtube video it shows after plugging the two smaller plugs into the new harness it is plugged back into the BM 54 and am just wondering why?

Does the video state the unit is a BM54? Maybe it is a DSP module?

The speaker connections are back there in your car, so that covers one side of the connections (the plugs removed from the BM54 to the loom) but I'm not sure what the other connection would be for (the loom back into the BM54), unless it is to pickup signaling such as the data bus for steering wheel controls, aerial power etc.

You've made me curious now - I'll chase this up later and post back here if I find anything. Links to the video in question and the replacement to head unit you are considering would be helpful. :-)

*edit* - you beat me to it with the link! :-)

I guess he doesn't really specify what it is but my understanding is that dsp is not plug and play but requires some cutting of wires etc. I really want to give the Eonon a go but am a little confused. As for the radio down to 1 speaker occasionally 2 but never sure what your going to get. Everything else is fine TV cd stacker etc all work great. Is the GPS plug and play and are the monitor cars pre wired for it , the GPS drive can be bought cheaply and would be a nice addition if I get the radio repaired.
