I've been looking in the past few weeks for a pre-owned 4.4 04' or 05' X5, either private sale or dealer pre-owned and have yet to find one with the Premium Sound w/ DSP.

Has anyone ever bought a pre-owned X5 that just happened to be equipped with the Prem Sound?

I'm making matters worse cause I want either Titanium Silver or Sterling Gray with black leather.

But good things are worth waiting for, I don't like to settle for something I won't be happy with so waiting 6 months till I find the exact one is not a problem for me. But am I dreaming or will the exact combo finally appear for me?
also, keep an eye on dealerships who
have some listed on eBay. if an X5
doesn't sell thru eBay, contact the Dealer
outside of eBay. that's what i ended up
doing. plus, because of my patience, i was
able to get a much better price.

Point being, keep looking till you find one.
I just bought a Silver on Black 05 X5 with Nav, Premium sound from a private party.

If I had it to do over again, I would by the same car WITHOUT the nav and premium sound because they suck. There are countless threads on this forum with people like me desparately trying to correct the sound quality of the OEM premium sound system.

I would have installed a Pioneer system for the same money that has a better amp, aftermarket speakers, nav, bluetooth, CD-changer integration, XM/Sirius integration all without loosing steering wheel volume control.

See this thread for background.

Well I disagree. Most people who want to shove comp speakers and push 2 12" subwoofers with over 1000 watts each aren't going to find any oem stereo to fit their need IMO.

Not what I was seeking. Just want to listen to good rock and roll, jazz, etc. Current OEM sound is garbage. A 4 x 4 amp, decent speakers (versus the paper OEM) is night and day. I'm not even suggesting huge sub-woofer upgrade.

But this is a real gray area. However, we all get to state our opinion.

i don't know if i'd go as far as to say it's garbage.
it does lack some bass, but as far a clarity and
crispness, for OEM, i'd say it's pretty darn schweet.
just my opinion though.

I wanted the exact same color combos as you, and I wanted the Nav & DSP too. It took me over 2 months of waiting ('04 4.4 sport), but I finally found it. Hang in there, it will show up. Just be3 prepared to buy right away because they are hard to find. I think the DSP is just fine for the most part. It is much better than most stock audio systems you'll find IMO. Good luck w/the search...all good things are worth the wait!

One listen to a Lexus Premium sound system and you'll realize how bad BMW factory sound is. Now, don't get me wrong. I own BMW's because of the total package, not because I want a killer sound system with a car build around it.

But the Mark Levinson option on the LS430 reset the bar as far as factory sound was concerned for me.

TECH TIP: If you cannot bear the awfulness of BMW Premium factory sound, do not play cassettes recorded from old Bay City Rollers 8-Tracks; makes a world of difference.
