Ac compressor

ok i found out that 2 of the allen head bolts ho'ding the compressor together are backed out and loose.. i am going to try and tighten them down while on the 4.4. is ther a thread how to get compressor out of x5? i have searched Utube. only how to test clutch etc. no removal. it look lile have to support motor and drop subframe,to get cpmpreasor out. any suggestions.....

Good day!!
When I pulled the motors in my 04 and 06, I left the A/C system together... but you SHOULD be able to work it out the front if the lines are removed from it... three bolts; two up front and one middle top area of compressor... I am fairly sure there is a space in that rear one, between the compressor and block... You may need to pull the fan and other items in that area...

You could look over My 2004 Project... it might have a few pictures that will help...

well i unclogged the sunroof drains with 2 caps full of bleach on each side. then i did plugs boots and upper radiator hose. . i just wanted to know if i have to remove fender liner or radiator. i did notice that almost all bolts holding compresor halves together are loose. where the lock washers are flopping around. i was gonna see about pulling clutch and tightening them up and seeing if she holds vacume.

Wow all of the compressor bolts that hold the halves together are loose? Has this compressor been off before or did someone try to rebuild it? strange

Some idiot that didn't know anything about ac system probably loosen all the bolts and when he unloosen the last bolt all the refrigerant in the system came rushing out and he got frostbite in his face or he went blind and never touch the X5 again. That's why I advise most people on this forum to bring it in if they don't know anything about AC system.

From what i can summize, the guy i bought it from, for $150.00 & 2,beers. Paid dearly for everythng. Lots new parts. My guess would be some tech wanted to get another &4-5k out of him for new AC system. Loosened ip on purpose. Got the bolts tight. But i dont knowbif proper torque/stretch. I am gonna try & vac down tomorrow. See if she holds vaccume. & maybe sparkplugs & boots tomorrow. Maybe polish the BMW on valve covers.
