Power Door Lock Operation Question
Also, when they lock or unlock they sound like 4 rounds of an automatic weapon going off because they aren't timed exactly the same and they are loud! Thanks

Take my answer with a grain of salt. Although I own an E53, I haven't taken possession of it yet. Waiting for it to ship.
I have owned several vehicles that will trigger the door locks when the car reaches a certain speed. None of them have ever had an auto unlock setting. I'm assuming that is the case here too. |

They do not automatically unlock. Maybe it can be coded to do so, but I don't know.

Thanks folks! Come to think of it, of the many cars I've previously owned I don't think but one of them unlocked automatically when the ignition was shut off...

Auto unlock is achieved by .... training yourself to press the central unlock button when you feel it is safe for passengers to exit the vehicle...or if alone in the car...the driver can "automatically" pull twice on the interior door handle.
There is no bmw special coding that makes the car UNLOCK without some driver/passenger initiation.
