P1528 Camshaft Position Actuator 'A' Control Circuit Signal High Bank 1

What is a camshaft position actuator and why can't I find any reference to it on the internet? Sheesh...is it the Vanos solenoid?

I'm looking to buy a lower mileage motor (130k miles) that has the P1528 code...I'm told it starts and idles fine. It's already pulled out of the car so I only have the info I provided here to go on. The gentleman I'm speaking to about the motor noted that the wires to the Vanos was stripped on one side and felt that might be the culprit.

Looking for some guidance on what kind of repair I'm getting myself into. How much, if any, damage could've been done to the motor by running it with this code?

Thanks in advance....
